Commodore’s Summer 2015 Recap

Well, the 2015 season has come to a close, there are a few dock sections remaining in the water for those adventurous fall sailors!  We had another swimmingly wonderful season at the Crystal Lake Yacht Club, and it’s nice to share with you a brief recap of this year’s highlights.

The First-Time Winners!
Most importantly, I am pleased to announce that the Junior Fleet had three first-time winners this year (left to right):
– Penelope Penfold-Patterson
– Brooke Rowland
– Jake Walrad

Regatta Results
CLYC was represented very well in regattas this summer.  We did exceptionally well at the WMYA Championship Regatta on Torch Lake.  CLYC’s Tony Pugh took first place in the MC-Scow Class.  Rob Terry came in first in the M-17 Class and third in the E-Scow Class.  Kaitlyn Rowland finished fifth in the Junior Butterfly Class, and was Top Junior Female, also sailing in the regatta for his first time was Jake Walrad.  In other regattas, Kaitlyn finished ninth in the Butterfly Nationals at Spring Lake.   Our Club hosted the E-Scow Invitational Regatta in July, and it was a huge success.  We left another great impression on our visiting sailors.  Some of those guests stayed to sail in the annual E-Scow Around-The-Lake Race, which is always a lot of fun.

Newly Elected Board Members
Sean Greene and Chris Walrad are our newest Board Members.  Each was elected for a three-year term at the Annual Meeting this year.  Sean will be chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee and will be working on arranging the sale of CLYC merchandise and website IT interfacing.   Chris will continue as Treasurer and will be stepping up into another role, chairman of the Tennis Committee. Welcome Sean and Chris!  Thanks for your help, we look forward to working with you in the coming seasons.

2016 MC Nationals
Next summer, CLYC will be hosting the 2016 MC-Scow National Championship, and it is the first time we have ever hosted this event.  We are expecting very high attendance!  Volunteers are critical to the success of the event, so please contact our Regatta Chair, Kelly Winter [kdw413(at)aol.com], if you are interested.  I know that all of our members want to make a great impression on our guest sailors, as we did last year at the E-Scow Nationals!

2016 Management
I am also pleased to announce that our management staff, Dal Townsend (Club Manager), Pearce Pomerleau (Race Manager, Sail Master), and Sarah Cunningham (Kitchen Manager) will all be back next year.

Lastly, I look forward to seeing you next summer.  Thank you for your contributions, and for making this a fantastic season.  I hope you have a great fall and a terrific school year!
